Where as no method can give results with 100% accuracy, there are methods in which
one can up the odds in their favor. Some years back a book was written with the same
title as this article, by Dr. Landrum B. Shettles M.D. According to Dr. Shettles if
his methods were carefully carried out then the odds of a woman conceiving her
desired sex raised from a 50% to 80%. Though that still leaves plenty of room for
error, many families ( most of whom had several children of the same sex) felt that
extra 30% was definitely worth a try. Because after all no matter what the outcome
your going to love and cherish that little one.

Most of his theory was based on the two types of sperm that men produce. The X sperm
(female) and the Y sperm (male). The Y (male) sperm are smaller and weaker, yet
faster than their x (female) counterparts which are bigger and stronger, but slow.
With this as the premise, he formed the following suggestions:

(1)The most important factor in any pregnancy is timing, gender selection is no
different. You see, the closer to ovulation the better the chances for conceiving a
boy. This is because the Y sperm being the faster swimmers reached the egg first.
For a girl however, he says it is better to have sex three to four days before
ovulation occurs. Thus allowing the less hardy male sperm to die off, resulting in
more available female sperm once the egg is released.

(2)Also the Ph levels of a woman\'s vagina are important. An acidic environment
favors girls, where as an alkaline favors boys. This led the the discovery that if
mixed properly, a special douche immediately before sex, could better prepare the
vaginal environment for the desired sex of the child-to-be. A mixture of vinegar and
water for a girl or baking soda and water for a boy.

(3)Once again because of PH levels, the sexual position as well as dept of
penetration are also determining factors. The closer you are to the entrance of the
vagina the more acidic it is. This factor combined with the fact that deeper
penetration deposited the sperm closer to the egg, giving the faster male sperm a
head start and a more alkaline environment. Thus it was determined that shallow
penetration, for example missionary was in favor of a girl. And deeper penetration,
rear entry (doggy style) favored the boy.

(4)Female Orgasm. Where as we all know that a male orgasm is imperative to the
conception of either gender, female is not, unless you are hoping for a boy. When a
woman orgasms her body releases a fluid that makes the vagina more alkaline. So if
your trying for a little girl, then ladies you\'ll have to forgo the big \"O\", at
least for a little while.

(5)Sperm count. Obviously you\'ll need a decent sperm count to get pregnant either
way. However the higher the sperm count the more chance of conceiving a baby boy. Is
there a magic formula for timing sex just right to get the intended outcome? There
just might be. The good Doctor had this mapped out as well. If you are trying for a
boy: then plan your special night 2 days before ovulation. ( To build up sperm
reserves, you are to not have sex for 4 day prior to that.) For a girl:you can have
sex everyday, if you wish, so long as you stop 2 days before ovulation. It\'s also
encouraged for the man to take a nice hot shower before intercourse, to deplete the
more fragile male sperm and give the female sperm a running start. Room temperature
is fine when hoping for a boy.
